CHRONOLOGY OF THE YORKSHIRE ICON

HISTORY

2.png

Concept

The inspiration for The Yorkshire Icon project stemmed from the dedication and resilience of the people of Yorkshire, as well as the enduring spirit of those who worked tirelessly in the steel and coal  industry. Their hard work and determination have left a lasting impact on the region's history and culture, serving as a source of inspiration for the creation of The Yorkshire Icon sculpture. By commemorating their legacy and contributions, the project aims to honour their memory and celebrate Yorkshire's industrial heritage for generations to come.

Founder

Steve Mehdi had the vision to build an iconic sculpture many years ago. Steve worked as a steelworker in Sheffield and wanted to create a memory piece for the men and women of the steel and coal industry. He envisioned a piece of art that would give back to the community and the city, and become an icon for the region.
